Every paid placement is labelled. Organic rankings are never for sale.

Verification

Verification shows that a company controls an app's website domain. It's free, it never changes rankings, and it's how a company gets to manage its listing.

What the mark means

A verified app shows an outline check after its name. On profiles it reads “Verified owner”. Select it to see the details, for example:

Verified owner. Acme Inc. proved it controls acme.com on 2 Oct 2026. Verification is free and doesn't change rankings.

Example of the verified owner details

The mark is deliberately not a filled seal or a colored check, so it can’t be mistaken for something paid. It says who controls the domain. It says nothing about quality.

How to verify

  1. Claim the app from your company dashboard.
  2. We give you a code that starts with appfinder-verify=. It is tied to the app’s domain and is valid for 14 days.
  3. Publish the code using one of the three methods below.
  4. Run the check from your dashboard. You can check up to 10 times an hour, so it’s fine to retry while DNS changes spread.

DNS TXT record

Add a TXT record named _appfinder.example.com whose value is your code.

File on your site

Upload a plain text file containing only your code to:

https://example.com/.well-known/appfinder-verification.txt

Meta tag on your homepage

Add this tag inside the homepage’s head:

<meta name="appfinder-verification" content="appfinder-verify=3f9c…">

We check the domain on the app’s listing. For the meta tag we also check the listed website’s own address when it sits on a subdomain, such as www.example.com.

How we check

  • We only fetch over HTTPS, and only from public internet addresses.
  • Redirects are followed only within the same domain, at most three times.
  • Each check gives up after 5 seconds. We read at most the first 16 KB of the verification file and the first 64 KB of your homepage.

An email address isn't proof

Having an email address at the app’s domain is never enough on its own. If none of the three methods works for you, you can ask for a manual review. Our staff see your email domain as one piece of evidence, and a person makes the decision.

After verification

  • Your company manages the listing: details, media, updates and analytics.
  • Only a verified owner can buy promotions for the app, including leaderboard bids.
  • When one company verifies, any other open claims for that app are closed.
  • Changing the app’s website to a different domain ends the verification, and you verify the new domain.
  • Our staff can revoke a verification for a recorded reason, such as evidence of impersonation.

It's free

Verification costs nothing and is never part of a paid plan. It doesn’t change organic rankings, search results or AI recommendations.
